Free Screenings at the Naval Museum Reveal the Secrets of the Black Sea
On 20 and 21 August (Thursday and Friday) at 3:00 p.m., the two-part documentary Lost Worlds: Beneath the Black Sea, dedicated to the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project (Black Sea MAP) will be screened for free at the Naval Museum.
The film tells the story of one of the largest international maritime archaeological projects (Black Sea MAP) ever carried out in the Black Sea. The footage presents the results of extensive underwater surveys that have revealed well-preserved shipwrecks and submerged landscapes, preserving valuable evidence of human history, ancient seafaring and changes in the marine environment.
The first episode – Voyage to an Ancient Sea will be screened on 20 August at 3:00 p.m., and the second episode – Secrets of Ancient Empires will be screened on 21 August at 3:00 p.m. The directors of the production are award-winning British documentary filmmakers David Belton and Andy Byatt.
The screenings are organised in partnership with the Naval Museum and are part of the initiative and joint programme of the Underwater Heritage Institute on the occasion of the first celebration of co, which will be observed annually on 21 August.
The programme also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. It is organised under the patronage of the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO.
