PAVLIN NADVORNI WITH YACHT “ESPRESSO MARTINI” IN THE SOLO ROUND THE WORLD RACE GLOBAL SOLO CHALLENGE
The race Global Solo Challenge is for single-crew yacht, for a round-the-world voyage, with stops only permitted when absolutely necessary. The route is classic, but hard – from La Corunã, Spain, along the Cape of Good Hope, west to Cape Leeuwin (South Australia), Cape Horn and north across the Atlantic Ocean to La Corunã.
P. Nadvorni has experience in sailing and has participated in numerous national and international keelboat regattas. He joined the competition after covering the nautical miles sailed required by the organizer. The yacht was purchased by him in 2018 in the UK and after repairs was brought to Varna.
P. Nadvorni started with the yacht “Espresso Martini” on 21 October 2023 from La Corunã, Spain in a group of three yachts. On 11 November “Espresso Martini” crossed the equator, and on 5 December rounded the Cape of Good Hope, the southernmost point of Africa. During this leg it became necessary to release the propeller from a coiled rope, two of the sails were lost, and the autopilot failed. On 1 January 2024 “Espresso Martini” rounded Cape Leeuwin. At this point, P. Nadvorni was sixth in the standings out of fifteen starters. Some urgent repairs made on move, during the voyage. But in Tasmanian Sea damages to the mast were found, which cannot be repaired with the available tools. After repairs in the New Zealand port of Bluff Harbour, the yacht and the skipper continued the race. A sudden kidney crisis, followed by a severe serious injury to the left shoulder forced Nadvorni, steering the yacht with one hand on painkillers pills, to dock in Littleton, New Zealand. There, after a medical examination, on 12 February 2024 he announced his withdrawal from the race.
To this point on the GLOBAL SOLO CHALLENGE route, “Espresso Martini” sailed more than 14 000 miles in 90 days.

“…Horn is a mythical cape. It takes a dose of madness to do something like this. I haven’t fears! I have enormous respect, a conviction that there are moments when, no matter how much you are prepared; there is a certain dose of divine intervention.”
